Deerfoot Dam/Sudbury Reservoir
Mr. St. Pierre, a social studies teacher at Trottier Middle School, started the school Fishing Club in 2000. This club meets early in the school year in fall. On selected days for the year, students head down to the Sudbury Reservoir and the Deerfoot Dam at 2:30. They catch all types of fish, including bluegill, sunfish, white and yellow perch, largemouth bass, crappie, pickerel, and occasionally catfish. After a student catches a fish, depending on the size or rarity of the fish, the group takes a picture and releases the fish back to the water.
Nineteen years ago Mr. St. Pierre started the fishing club because of his love of fishing, and nineteen years later, it still lives on today. The club is showing no sign of slowing down with the number of students staying consistent over the years. Mr. St. Pierre said, “Middle school is a perfect time because they can do it themselves; they don’t need somebody by their side. They can take the fish off the hook and cast by themselves.”
Students between the ages of 11 and 14-years-old can sign up through the Southborough Recreation Department. Everybody is welcome, and it is a fun time for all.
